This is the starter we use in all our sourdough baking here at Breadtopia. A hearty strain of wild yeast that has served us well for years.

For thousands of years, sourdough starter has been used to healthily and naturally leaven bread. Containing naturally occurring yeast and friendly Lactobacillus bacteria, sourdough starter also adds its own unique flavor profile to baked goods.

Follow these simple instructions to revive the dormant dried starter. Within a few days you should have a sufficient quantity of active starter to begin baking.

With regular feeding, your starter can be sustained indefinitely.

You’ll find a wide selection of sourdough bread recipes on our web site. For details on sourdough starter management, visit www.breadtopia.com/sourdough-starter-management.

Ingredients: Organic wheat flour and wild yeast culture.

I got your dried starter and shared it with a friend. Your starter is now happily bubbling in Scotland and Connecticut. It is the best starter! I made pancakes and bread both and it is wonderful! Thanks so much! Jacki Kennedy, Connecticut

Our sourdough starter comes packaged in Biotre 2.0 pouches. Biotre is made from renewable plant based resources and is 60% compostable.

Sourdough Starter (Dry)

Fabulous starter! I kept mine going for years and it contributed to hundreds of tasty loaves. It has now sadly departed but that was my neglect, no fault of the starter. Easy to use and a great result each time. Recommended.

Just started the reactivating process yesterday! Will be giving Day2 feed shortly! I already noticed a few tiny bubbles already! Easy instructions via website and You Tube Breadtopia videos! Thank you. Highly recommend this dry cultures.

As advertised!! I followed the instructions and got the exact results. I am very pleased. I’ve been using it to make pizza. My crust went from barely okay to one of the best I’ve ever had. I use Graincraft’s Power High Gluten in my starter. It’s been getting better every week. I keep it in the fridge during the week. Feed it every other day or so. I bring it out Saturday morning, feed it, and by noon, I have as much as I need to make my dough for Sunday pizza night. Thanks Breadtopia!

I have been baking with starters for a few years, but my old starter was accidentally thrown out when we moved to our new house. This was my first experience with a store bought dehydrated starter. It was very easy to use, the instructions to revive were so simple, and my first loaves came out beautifully.

The starter arrived quickly and worked perfectly. I put it in a jar, added the recommended amount of flour and water, and the next morning I had bubbly starter. I fed it for a couple of days until I had enough (overfed once, it overflowed!) and made sourdough biscuits for breakfast. They were perfect! I haven’t had that taste in 30 years, since the last time I ate at the old Club Cafe in Santa Rosa, NM. Next project: a loaf of bread.

I bought my dry starter from you a few years ago and it is still going strong. I have two I keep going, one with water and the other with milk. I have made many oaves of bread and the biscuits made with it are so light and fluffy it’s unreal. Thanks Eric for a wonderful sourdough experience. You’re the best and your starter is too!! 😉

Works great! I switched it to rye after only 24h and successfully baked a whole grain rye bread already on the third day after I received the starter.
The dough was nicely bubbling, you could almost hear the it rise. And it has a nice aroma.

Great starter! I’ve done sourdoughs off and on for years, but this is the first one that really , REALLY took off. I worried about the starter at first because it seemed sort of slow, but after a couple of days of feeding it off and on it was unstoppable. I’ve had it 2 weeks now and shared it with 2 people and made a couple of recipes, English Muffins and regular bread in loaves. For the one in loaves I used a recipe that utilized the autolyse method and honestly it was better than any I ever had in San Francisco.
