Documentary: Real Bread Bakers
By a special arrangement with documentary filmmaker Zev Robinson, Breadtopia is excited to make Zev’s latest film, Real Bread Bakers, available for an exclusive, free screening on our site throughout the weekend of June 6 and 7.
Focusing on the artisan sourdough bread community in and around Scotland, this 30-minute film is about the relationship between bread baking, sustainable locally sourced grain, nutrition and community. The beautiful footage in this film, especially the fabulous dough handling, will have you craving an aromatic whole grain sourdough to knead, shape, and bake.
Meanwhile fascinating interviews with leaders of various interconnected bread movements in Scotland impart a great understanding about what sourdough is, the history of bread, the difference between the mass-produced, so-called “bread” in grocery stores and real bread, and presents community-driven artisan bread baking as an antidote to a dehumanized food system. It will inspire you to savor your bread in good company and that’s what we’re all about (as pointed out by one of the film’s interviewees, the word company comes from the Latin com [with, together] and panis [bread]. With bread; if that’s not a perfect etymology for Breadtopia, Inc, we don’t know what is).
NOTE: The Breadtopia free screening for Real Bread Bakers has now expired, but you can still watch the film by making a small donation HERE.
