Made in Italy by Bormioli Rocco. Features superior clarity and finish and convenient chalkboard writing area. The chalkboard is permanent, chalk notations wipe off easily with a damp cloth. For years, the 1.5 quart Bormioli jars have been our container of choice for storing sourdough starter. We now also offer this 1 quart size for storing smaller quantities of starter (or anything else you wish to use it for).
Large mouth wire bale jars are ideal for storing sourdough starter.
Latching the jar with the rubber gasket removed helps:

What’s so great about a starter jar?? I used a Ball canning jar at first for sourdough, and then bought one of these. The difference is amazing. It’s shorter and wider. That makes it easier to access the starter with a spoon, and to manipulate the starter in any way necessary. The bale closures are easy to remove and clean. The glass is excellent quality. And the chalk board feature is awesome for identifying which starter base was used for which starter. I was surprised that these were so reasonably priced. After buying the first one, I bought 3 more. Excellent!!

These are so cute, and I love that the gasket seal is removable. I don’t know if I’ll use one for my sourdough starter or not- I just use and old pickle jar with a silicone cover that burps itself when it’s full, but they’ll be perfect for storing smaller amounts of sugar, flour, dry milk, etc., so I can keep the remainder stored in vacuum bags to keep it fresher.
