An Olive Oil Campaign Worth Supporting
How much do you know about the olive oil you serve with your bread?
Did you know that researchers at UC Davis have confirmed that almost 70% of “extra virgin olive oil” doesn’t even meet the actual standard? In fact, the New York Times even exposed that most of your olive oil doesn’t even come from the countries they claim to come from!
We’ve recently run across a Kickstarter campaign from a new company called “Especially Puglia” that hopes to change where we get our olive oil from. The company focuses on sourcing their olive oil from Puglia, Italy, a place many consider the “holy land” of olive oil trees. How can they confirm their olive oil is well-made? The oil comes directly from their own family farms!
They focus on sourcing olive oil straight from their family’s farmhouses and selling directly to buyers.
Traditionally, larger companies would influence small farms like theirs to sell all of their stock to them for smaller prices, which we then end up paying more for on the shelf. By buying directly from Especially Puglia, you would get olive oil straight from the press.
The Especially Puglia Kickstarter campaign recently became fully funded in only 14 days. But their owner, Michele Iadarola, informed us that his farm has a handful of trees left to adopt for the 2014 harvest. The cornerstone of their company is their “Adopt A Tree program”, that lets you gain fresh olive oil directly from one of their trees through a unique experience that includes:
In addition, anyone who adopts an olive oil tree will receive:
The campaign has a few more days to go, so if you’re interested in adopting an olive oil tree, now would be the best time. You can visit their Kickstarter campaign here:
