Latch the jar with the rubber gasket removed to:
- Protect your starter from airborne contaminants
- Prevent starter from drying out
- Allow adequate air passage
Note: Our small Danish Dough Whisk (sold separately) works great for mixing starter. The wire head of the small whisk fits easily inside the mouth of the jar. Our other whisks will not fit inside the jar.

Got the jar when I ordered my first cloche and live starter last week. Perfect size for my use. Today I’m going to order the quart jar with copper lid to use for making a rye starter using some of the live starter I got as the base now that it’s been added to and is doing great.
